My Journey from Computer Engineering to Senior IT Consulting

June 15, 2025

My career has been a journey of continuous evolution, from the structured world of computer engineering to the dynamic, multifaceted realm of senior IT consulting. It's a path I didn't necessarily plan, but one that has been incredibly rewarding, teaching me that the most valuable skill in today's professional landscape is the ability to adapt, learn, and grow.

The Foundation: A Love for Problem-Solving

I started my journey with a Bachelor's degree in Computer Engineering. I was drawn to the field by a love for logic, structure, and the thrill of solving complex problems. My early roles as a Software Data Scientist were deeply technical. I spent my days building data pipelines, developing algorithms, and writing code. I loved the challenge of it, but I soon realized that I was often disconnected from the real-world impact of my work.

The Transition: Seeking the "Why"

I found myself increasingly curious about the business context behind the technical problems I was solving. Why were we building this feature? Who was it for? What business problem were we trying to solve? This curiosity led me to pursue roles as a Business Analyst. It was a significant shift. I had to learn a new language – the language of business – and a new set of skills, like stakeholder management, requirements elicitation, and process modeling.

It wasn't always easy. I had to learn to be comfortable with ambiguity and to navigate the complex, often political, landscape of large organizations. But I found that my technical background gave me a unique advantage. I could speak the language of both business and technology, acting as a bridge between the two worlds.

The Evolution: Becoming a Strategic Advisor

As I gained more experience, my role evolved from that of a translator to that of a strategic advisor. I was no longer just documenting requirements; I was helping to shape business strategy. This evolution culminated in my current role as a Senior IT Business Consultant at Master Team, where I have the privilege of leading enterprise-wide consulting engagements and helping our clients navigate their digital transformation journeys.

Lessons Learned on the Journey

Looking back, there are a few key lessons that stand out:

  1. Embrace Continuous Learning: The tech industry is in a constant state of flux. The skills that are valuable today may be obsolete tomorrow. I've made it a priority to always be learning, whether it's pursuing a Master's degree in AI, earning a new certification, or simply reading a book on a new technology.

  2. Don't Be Afraid to Step Outside Your Comfort Zone: The biggest leaps in my career have come when I've been willing to take on new challenges and step into roles that I wasn't fully qualified for. It's in these moments of discomfort that we learn and grow the most.

  3. Focus on Delivering Value: At the end of the day, our value as professionals is determined by the value we deliver to our organizations. Whether you're writing code, designing a system, or advising a client, always keep a relentless focus on the business outcome.

My journey is far from over, but I'm grateful for the path I've traveled. It has taught me that a career is not a linear progression, but a winding road of discovery, learning, and growth.
